Visual arts have a long tradition in Bad Elster. After the "convertible structures" created from the middle of the 19th century no longer met the increased demands, the heatable, light-flooded "new foyer" in the Bauhaus style was built by the Saxon Building Department in 1928/1929 from Postelwitzer Elbe sandstone with a decorative fountain in the forecourt, which has since advanced to become an important forum for fine arts.
