On the road in NRW Discover the double-arch bridge in the Nordsternpark in Gelsenkirchen - an impressive landscape park on the site of the former Nordstern mine. After it was closed in 1993, the area was extensively renovated and transformed into a green oasis. Curved and in bright red, the steel arches of the double-arch bridge stretch across the park. The structure, which was installed in the Gelsenkirchen complex for the Federal Garden Show in 1996, is a good 36 meters high and is particularly worth seeing in the twilight hours of the evening. And a bike ride through the Nordsternpark offers a lot more: whether the amphitheater on the Rhine-Herne Canal, former mine buildings or a show mine - as part of the Route of Industrial Heritage, a trip is worthwhile.

The canal bank area now has a great structure with the double row of columnar oaks. Let's see whether this will really improve with the redesign for the upcoming International Garden Show.

DirectionsBy bike, you can discover some other interesting photo spots along the Rhine-Herne Canal next to the Nordsternpark. You can cycle and experience the entire Erzbahn route via the Grimberger Sichel. The Erzbahn route leads through Bochum's Westpark, which, together with the Jahrhunderthalle, is part of the Route of Industrial Heritage, to Bochum's city center. If you want to spontaneously cycle through the parks in the Ruhr area, you can rent a bike at one of the numerous metropolradruhr stations and zoom off.
