Here the Margriet Canal connects to the Bergummermeer.
Before the construction of the barge to Dokkum (ca. 1650), the barge went over the Bergummermeer. On the map from 1630, see photo, the lake is called Bergmeer and the Margriet Canal Cornelsdiep (after Colonel Caspar Robles).
