"The elongated, narrow island is exposed to the constant wind, which does not allow extensive trees, such as on Norderney or Borkum. In the twenties of the century before last, the biologist Dr. Otto Leege began west of the Hammersee with the Planting particularly wind-hard plants and thus created the nature reserve that you can hike through on the approved paths.

As rare trees you can discover black alder and Carpathian birch in the grove. This small forest is something special, because the gnarled growth of the trees makes it look enchanted and ghostly. Especially when it is foggy you feel transported into the realm of legends and myths. The strong wind is the reason for this unique tree growth. You can find green and gray scales on many trees. These are lichens that have settled on the tree bark. It is precisely these lichens that are used as indicator plants for absolutely clean air. You will therefore find evidence of clean, low-pollutant air on Juist in our forest.

You can often spot deer on a hike through the grove. They have been living on our island for about 50 years. Hike or drive to the viewing platform in the woods. From there you not only have a beautiful view over the small, enchanted forest area, but also a view of the North Sea. A hike through the woods is a great alternative to a day at the beach, especially on warm days. "

This forest has cast a spell over us, it really creates an enchanted impression with its dense forest and cave-like alleyways.

If we are used to wandering between tall beeches and oaks, we will find bonsai oaks here (exaggerated), only the wind evacuators, which are somewhat taller, which have been combed diagonally by the storm and constant wind.

Enchanted path through a rustic forest on the south side of the Hammersee. You can only see something of the lake itself in one place ...
