The impressive, two- to three-storey building with an integrated staircase tower is one of the cultural monuments of the state of Saxony. It was built in the mid-1860s and opened in 1866 as the royal Saxon post office. In the years that followed, a number of expansion and extension measures took place; the last renovation and modernization work was carried out around 1990. The building has been empty since 2006.

The representative Wilhelminian-era building with a tower and red brick facade characterizes the entire entrance to the town of Crimmitschau. It was built in the round-arch or historicist style typical of the time, which combines different styles from past eras into a harmonious whole.
