The midwife toad is listed as critically endangered in the Red List of endangered animal species in Switzerland. The Glögglifrosch, as the species is also called, depends on bodies of water for reproduction, although it does not seem to be very picky. The terrestrial habitat in the immediate vicinity of the spawning waters is more important, which is why ponds have been created in various places in Switzerland.
