    Archaeological Park Cambodunum - APC

The Archaeological Park Cambodunum brings a bygone era to life - the time of the Roman town of Cambodunum, which arose in the 2nd decade AD on the high right bank of the Iller.

The Archaeological Park Cambodunum is divided into three sections.

    First section:

The Gallo-Roman temple district of the Roman city of Cambodunum as a partial reconstruction on the original foundation walls.

The Archaeological Park Cambodunum (APC) is the largest Roman park in southern Germany and brings ancient life to life at the original location. The open-air museum presents the archaeological evidence of the former Roman city of Cambodunum, which is located on the eastern high bank of the Iller in the middle of today's Kempten city area.

Under Emperor Augustus, the Romans founded the city of Cambodunum around the turn of the century. The excellent location in terms of transport and geography is considered to be a key factor in this. From here, the Iller was navigable, the Alpine passes were easily and quickly accessible and there was a road connection to Bregenz and thus via Lake Constance and the Rhine to Gaul. The city experienced its greatest heyday in the first century AD and was the first administrative center of the Roman province of Raetia. The center of Cambodunum can still be admired today on the grounds of the Archaeological Park Cambodunum.
