On the barren peninsula of Akrotiri in northwestern Crete lies the Orthodox Monastery of Agia Triada (Holy Trinity). Even from a distance, its three domes and bell tower, as well as the majestic main church, are visible. The cross-shaped complex has a courtyard surrounded by arcades with palm trees. The monastery was built in the 17th century by two Venetian monks who converted to the Orthodox faith. The church's facade with its monumental Doric columns bears traces of the Venetian Renaissance. The museum displays icons and manuscripts. The monastery produces and sells olive oil, balsamic vinegar, soap, and pomace.
