In 1910, cylinder-like depressions were uncovered in the rock in the limestone quarry on Hardelsberg (Lower Muschelkalk, formed around 240 million years ago). These are so-called glacial potholes. These hollows were washed out during the Ice Age by meltwater that carried sand and gravel. They were formed around 140,000 years ago, in the penultimate glacial period (Saale glacial period).
