Saint Anthony Abbot is the patron saint of farmers and livestock. Many Antonius chapels were built around 1400. Through communal prayer, believers try to protect humans and animals against contagious diseases. This is also the case in Liempde. The former 'St. Theunis chapel', also known as 'the holy house', was located in Kasteren, near 't goed de Sloophoos. Shortly after the peace of Munster in 1648, all chapels disappear. It was not until 1794 that the chapel was rebuilt as a wooden place of worship. In the course of the nineteenth century, the Antonius chapel disappears again. In 1982, the Kasteren neighborhood association built a simple niche containing a statue of Antonius Abt. The niche was replaced in 2002 by the current chapel.
