Wilhelm I visited Homburg frequently.
The 3.5-meter-high bronze figure on the three-meter-high pedestal made of Swedish red granite depicts His Majesty in general's uniform with an ermine cloak draped over his head.
His grandson, Kaiser Wilhelm II, and his family attended the unveiling ceremony.
Princes, the generals and their entourage, ambassadors, and city dignitaries were also present.
The Kaiser awarded the artist, Fritz Gerth, a medal and appointed the mayor of Homburg Lord Mayor.
