Fortified church and cemetery (15th century). Unique architectural ensemble, listed as a historic monument.
The church is built on a hill outside the village and is surrounded by a hexagonal enclosure (flanked by six semi-circular bastions with embrasures), which also includes the Catholic cemetery. It preserves frescoes from the 15th century that tell the legend of Saint Nicholas.
Originality: remarkable arrangement and undoubtedly unique in Alsace, access to the pulpit is via a back staircase and a passage pierced in the pillar.
The simultaneousum (welcome within the same church of Protestant and Catholic religions), founded in Hunawihr in 1687, is still in force in Hunawihr (the days of worship are alternated).
