At the Ladby Viking Museum on Kerteminde Fjord, you can enter Denmark's oldest royal grave. More than 1,000 years ago, an unnamed king was buried here in his Viking ship. The museum houses Denmark's only ship burial from the Viking Age—an attraction of international renown.

The Ladby ship is atmospherically presented as a burial chamber in a reconstructed burial mound, located exactly on the spot where it was discovered in 1935.

Archaeological research has shown that the Viking ship was pulled ashore around the year 925, where the dead king was buried in the ship with his horses, dogs, weapons, and other valuables.

The main attraction of the Ladby Viking Museum is the Viking ship grave of the King of Ladby, but it is also a museum for the entire Viking region of East Funen.

The exhibition "Ladbykongens Verden" (The World of Ladby) provides a comprehensive and general account of the Viking Age. With the help of the exhibited finds, films, and artistic representations of the Viking Age on East Funen, you can explore the world and daily life in which the King of Ladby participated.

In the "Viking Wardrobe," both children and adults can try dressing up in Viking clothing.

Throughout the exhibitions, you will also find many unique local metal detector finds, which tell the story of people and gods of the Viking Age in gold, silver, and bronze. The burial of the Ladby King is presented in the exhibition "King and Warrior." Here, you can experience the illusion of being there on the day the dead Viking king was laid to rest in his ship, ready for his journey to the afterlife. A faithful replica of the Ladby ship, replica Vikings, dead horses, and grave goods are on display alongside display cases containing the original objects from the tomb. The exhibition also features the unique Ladby Tapestry, a seven-meter-long embroidered tapestry inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry from Normandy. Here, the story of the death of the King of Ladby and the discovery of his tomb 1,000 years later is told – in colorful images.

On foot you should note that in Denmark many paths lead through property and you should keep a distance of 150m to the property.
Dogs are not allowed in the museum itself, so keep this in mind when planning your activity. Unfortunately, my dog cannot wait 1.5 hours in front of the entrance. Next time I'll go by car.
