St. Viktor in Xanten on the Lower Rhine is commonly referred to as the Xanten Cathedral because of its importance and size, although it was never an episcopal church.

A church that towers over the town and is well worth seeing. It began in Romanesque style and was completed in Gothic style. Beautiful altars with magnificent carvings. The crypt is designed in a rather brutalist style. The bell ropes hanging in the south tower for hand ringing are interesting and rarely seen in Germany.
