The Dippemess is a traditional folk festival in Frankfurt am Main that takes place twice a year: in spring and autumn. This festival has a long history, dating back to the 14th century, when it served as a marketplace for pottery, particularly pots and dishes (“Dippe” in the Hessian dialect). Today, Dippemess has developed into a diverse fair that offers a wide range of attractions and entertainment for visitors of all ages.

During Dippemess there are numerous rides, game stalls, culinary offerings and traditional fair attractions. The festival site is often near Frankfurter Volkspark and attracts people from all over the region.

Some of the highlights of Dippemess are roller coasters, carousels, shooting galleries, candy stands and many other amusement options. The atmosphere is lively and festive, and Dippemess offers an opportunity for families, friends and visitors to have fun together and experience the local culture.

The Dippemess is a firmly anchored tradition in Frankfurt and helps to shape the lively and sociable atmosphere of the city.

The Frankfurt Dippemess, the largest and oldest Frankfurt folk festival, is well known far beyond the region. It was first mentioned in writing in the 14th century. At the time, the Maamess ("Main Fair"), as it was called back then, was a medieval market for household goods of all kinds. Potters from the Westerwald, the Kannenbäckerland and Urberach sold their products here, especially their ceramic bowls and pots, known in Frankfurt dialect as "Dippe", which soon gave the event its name.

In 1968, the Dippemess had to move from Frankfurt's Römerberg to the fairground on Ratsweg below the Bornheimer Hang, as there was no longer enough space for the showmen's rides in Frankfurt's old town.

The Dippemess takes place twice a year - once in April for around three weeks as the spring Dippemess around Easter and once for around a week as the autumn Dippemess at the beginning of September - on the fairground on Ratsweg in front of the ice rink near Ostpark. The Dippemess in spring is characterized by a colorful range of rides, restaurants, shows and games. Traditional rides, such as a ghost train, and various walk-through attractions form the basis of the Dippemess every year. A large marquee tent, in which musical performances are offered, among other things, is also an integral part of the festival. Since 2010, it has taken place in the autumn as an event with a more family-friendly character and fewer rides.

The fairground on Ratsweg is connected to public transport via the Eissporthalle underground station on line U7 of the Frankfurt underground and via a stop on line 12 of the Frankfurt tram.

In June 2022, the governing coalition in Frankfurt decided to build the European School on the fairground at Ratsweg, and the Dippemess would then move to the site at Rebstock.
