The battlefield became synonymous with Schalke 04, and the miner's salute to evoke the success of the "miners". The regular contact with the Sunday spectators contributed significantly to the cohesion of the team and promoted the identification of the residents of the district with the club. The laying of the foundation stone for the stadium, which was to accommodate 34,000 spectators, took place on August 8, 1927. The arena was inaugurated with the Schalke 04 game against SV Köln-Sülz 07, which ended 3-3 on August 25, 1928.
On June 9, 1973, the last Bundesliga game took place in the Kampfbahn Glückauf, Schalke 04 against Hamburger SV, which ended 2-0. After that, Schalke 04 continued to play in the newly built Parkstadion.
Today, the DJK Teutonia Schalke-Nord 1921 plays in the renovated Glückauf Arena.
