The Marble Museum shows and explains the history of stone and clay balls.
Since the 14th century, limestone balls (marble - Märbel) have been produced with simple ball mills as ammunition for muzzle-loading pistols and rifles. Due to the expulsion of Austrian Protestants in 1732, ball production came to Upper Franconia and southern Thuringia. From 1780, marbel mills are shown here as houses on maps. Our water mill was built in 1712 as a paper mill, rebuilt around 1870 as a marshmallow mill.
