The almost towerless church faces the river with a columned facade. Notre-Dame de la Daurade was rebuilt at the end of the 18th century on the site of one of Toulouse's oldest churches. The predecessor building from late antiquity was probably the chapel of the Visigoth kings, whose apse was decorated with early Christian gilded mosaics, from which the church got its name (Latin deaurata, gilded). In the Middle Ages, the church belonged to a Benedictine monastery whose prior was one of the most important people in Toulouse. It was flanked by mills until the end of the 14th century, and from the 12th to the 17th centuries it was adjacent to the Pont de la Daurade, now defunct but the most important bridge in Toulouse at the time. On February 1, 1963, the basilica was included in the list of monuments historiques.
