Construction work on the Galataport project began in 2015. The 1.5 billion euro project, which will transform the historic Karaköy Port into a world-class cruise port, is considered one of the largest coastal projects in the world.
Galataport's modern architectural design is inspired by the city's ancient cisterns, which is reflected in the structural form of the terminal's interior and its rounded columns.
