Nysted's oldest dwelling is the small orange-red half-timbered cottage at Gammel Torv 7, built after the great fire of 1654. The wooden construction also points to this old age. The listed building was first mentioned in 1761 in the fire insurance archive. The town hall was once located at Gammel Torv, the old market.
