The Chapel of St. Johannis Schnakenbek
In the Ratzeburg tithe register of 1230, Schnakenbek belonged to the parish of Lütau, later the village got its own chapel, the predecessor of today's St. Johannis chapel.
Even before 1581, Schnakenbek was assigned to the parish of Artlenburg, probably because of the convenient ferry connection.
The chapel in Schnakenbek was first mentioned in a visitation report from 1581, but it is likely to be older.
In 1854/55 the dilapidated small church was replaced by today's building.
At the end of the Second World War, the St. John's Chapel was severely damaged by artillery fire, but the restoration work only took place between 1953 and 1957. Figures from a late Gothic carved altar were taken from the furnishings of the old chapel and arranged in 1962 in the present arrangement in the chancel became.
