    Prandtauerkirche St. Pölten

In 1782 the monastery and church were abolished and in 1784 they were formally profaned. The interior furnishings were partly taken to a Vienna depot, partly given away, partly auctioned, and partly given to poorer or newly founded Josephine parishes. The main altar was moved to the parish church of Tulln - St. Stephan, where it is still located today. Princess Montecuccoli's coffin was transferred to the castle chapel in Walpersdorf. The monastery building served as a barracks until 1918 and as the headquarters of various municipal offices since 1922. In 1934, the architect Rudolf Wondracek restored the church to its original state and re-consecrated it in 1935. Since then it has been serving Catholic services again. In 1964, ownership of the church building was transferred to the Diocese of St. Pölten; the former monastery building is still owned by the city today and houses, among other things, the St. Polten City Museum.
