COPIED AND PASTED FROM RAITHWAITE HALL'S WEBSITE.

"Raithwaite Hall, the elegant house at the heart of our estate, was originally home to the Pyman family, a well-known Whitby shipbuilding family in the 19th century. George Pyman, a born and bred local, made his fortune and built Raithwaite in late 1800s, where he married Elizabeth English and had nine children.

Raithwaite estate remained in the family until 1939, when it was bought by William Headlam, a shipping tycoon. When he died in 1991, he left the estate to his nurse, Trudi Tanner, who had cared for him for 20 years. Trudi lived alone at Raithwaite for a number of years before retiring to a local village, and in 2011 Raithwaite opened as the laid-back, coastal retreat it is today."
