This little stretch of the coastal path is absolutely magnificent. High on the cliffs and right on the edge, you're afforded beautiful views out to sea on one side and glorious countryside on the other side. With rocky crags and beaches below, and with hawthorn and cow parsley blowing in the sea breeze, it's easy to see why they call Yorkshire 'God’s own County'.

The stretch of the Cleveland Way between the town of Whitby and the higgledy-piggledy perchings of Robin Hood’s Bay has to be one of the finest and most varied coast walks in the country. Along the way you’ll pass Whitby Abbey, Saltwick Bay and Ness Point, before sinking into the confines of a warm pub or tearoom in the sweetest little fishing port in Yorkshire.

Something for everyone on this route - I saw hikers, trail runners and dog-walkers. But still not particularly busy, even on a summer's morning (unlike the Seven Sisters in East Sussex for example, which is the motorway equivalent of a a coast walk). Fabulous views, clear Cleveland Way signposts, good quality tracks in summer, although you can see how the ground has been churned up in the winter, and easily accessible and not too far from Robin Hood's Bay.
