Eliot Mountain is one of Acadia's least frequented peaks, and makes a great getaway from the commotion of the summer crowds. The views facing Northeast Harbor are the highlight of the hike. Eliot Mountain is named after Charles Eliot, a past president of Harvard, who worked closely with George Dorr to found Acadia National Park, The peak was once named Savage Mountain after Jordan Pond House manager and active community member Charles Savage, and keen-eyed hikers will notice signage with both names.
