The well-preserved remains of the city wall were well integrated into the adjacent green area. The Werdertor was built in 1311 and is the only preserved fragment of the gatehouse with barbican in the middle Oderland.

The so-called "pseudo-romantic city gate" is part of the former city wall of Guben.

Individual fragments of the former medieval town of Guben have been preserved on the Gubin side. City walls, gates and towers served to defend the city and its citizens. The gates can still be found today as a symbol on the city coat of arms of Guben and Gubin. The so-called thick tower (of the Werdertor) is the only surviving fortified tower and can be viewed in Gubin alongside individual remains of the city wall from the 15th and 16th centuries. A part of the former city wall was added around 1900 as a decoration and as a reminder of the old tradition by the transport company Wilhelm Wilke. Next to the Werderturm is the Museum Chamber, which has over 1000 exhibits on the history of Lower Lusatia. Among other exhibits is the wooden clock face of the tower clock installed on the Werderturm in 1657. On the initiative of the "Friends of the Gubiner Land" association, two clocks based on historical models were installed, one on the northern and one on the southern side of the tower.
