The Delft blue teapot was unveiled in 2013 on the corner of Josephstraat and West-Kruiskade, directly opposite John Travolta's mural.

De Teapot - WestkruiskadeThe Rotterdam artist Anne-Mercedes Langhorst was asked to create a work of art to embellish the De Leeuwenhoek nursing home.

For her inspiration, she looked for a design that symbolizes the connection between the many cultures on the West-Kruiskade.

She found it in Delft blue tiles. Although Delft blue is perceived as very Dutch, it is originally Chinese. In the eyes of Anne-Mercedes, different cultures are united in the Delft blue teapot without losing their own identity.

The artwork Theepot by Rotterdam artist Anne-Mercedes Langhorst has been on display on the façade of nursing home De Leeuwenhoek since 2013. In 2012, Langhorst was approached by Alliantie West-Kruiskade and Stichting Humanitas to design an artwork for the façade that represents solidarity. The artist chose a representation of a Delft blue teapot, which depicts the encounter between and the similarities of many different cultures on the West-Kruiskade. Drinking tea is a ritual or act that brings people together and connects them all over the world. The teapot unites different cultures without them losing their own identity. The 12.5-metre high Theepot was applied to the bricks and windows of the nursing home using Dibond plates and stickers. Although Delft blue is perceived as very Dutch, it is originally Chinese. In the evenings, the artwork is illuminated by neon lighting.
