The St. Cornelius Church in Machelen, dedicated to Saints Michael, Cornelius, and Ghislenus, was built on the large bend in the Leie River and boasts a particularly picturesque view. The church has a monumental appearance and is notable for its diversity of architectural styles. Over the years, it has been modified and expanded several times into a hall church. Since 1432, the faithful have been making pilgrimages there. The church was designated a protected monument in 1979, and the surrounding area, including the village center and old rectory, is a protected village view.
