The landscape of the national park is characterized by pine forests, heathland and moors. The bogs were formed due to the terracing of the terrain from east to west, which is caused by small clumps and geological ditches. The two largest bog lakes, called "vennen" in Dutch, are the "Elfenmeer" and the "Rolvennen" lake.
