The Tiefbauzeche "Vereinigte Margarethe" colliery, built in Dortmund-Sölde in 1857, began in the late thirtieth century in the 5th east section of its mine field with the mining of the "Magleol seam" "Hauptflöz". To improve the ventilation (ventilation) of the mines in this department around 1899 here a "broken" shaft down to the first civil engineering base was sunk. He was initially 52 m vertically then 25 m obliquely along a fault in the main seam; the vertical total depth (depth) was 72 m. With decommissioning of the coal mine Margarethe on 15.6.1928 the weather shaft was abandoned and filled.

Air shaft of the Margarethe colliery

On the Luftschachtweg in Holzwickede, the opening of the former ventilation shaft of the Margarethe colliery is still preserved. The air shaft, built around 1900, used to be equipped with a machine fan, which was removed when the building was shut down.

The three-tree tree added in the course of the restoration serves as a museum and was not part of the actual air shaft.

Interesting to see the primitive tools with which this ventilation shaft was operated.
But there is a lot of rubbish around the shaft.

(In mining, "weather" refers to underground ventilation)
