At the Tüskendörsee, the island used to be divided into two halves: Westland and Ostland (Tüskendör means in between). The creek was only drained in the 1860s. The lake was preserved, in this area a wide variety of bird species cavort - depending on the season. You can observe them well from the dike (binoculars or telephoto lenses are helpful here), as they do not feel disturbed from this distance.
