Nereids are nymphs of the sea and figures from Greek mythology. The sculptor Karlheinz Goedtke presents a single nymph seated on a low base. This depiction deviates from the usual form in which the Nereids are mostly shown as lively water creatures. His bronze sculpture, which is on display in the Gottorf Castle Sculpture Park on the edge of the Burgsee, focuses on the posture of the young woman: the bent left leg rests on the stretched right leg. The left arm rests on the knee and the right arm in turn rests on the left forearm. The woman's head rests on her right hand. The resulting lines and angles bring the whole body into a harmoniously balanced tension.Data about the factory
