It was a small sensation when it was announced in the summer of 2014 that sea eagles had settled in Schleswig for the first time in over 100 years. Now this beautiful story is being continued - and there is even the icing on the cake. Because unlike last year, when the birds of prey had (unsuccessfully) bred unnoticed by the public in the middle of the forest west of the castle lake, they have now built a new nest that is much more visible to the people of Schleswig. And directly opposite the castle island.
At the beginning of March 2015, the pair of birds moved to the shore of the lake and found a place for their nest high up in a large poplar tree. Anyone who stands on the north bridge, armed with binoculars, that connects the castle island with the avenue to the baroque garden, has the best view of the pair of eagles, who diligently take turns breeding. "It is really sensational that the animals are breeding so close to the city. They usually hide their nests.
