In the Old Lower Town of Nijmegen, a small chapel from the 15th century has been preserved as a historical monument.

Since 1998, this chapel has been managed by a then newly established foundation, "Friends of Sint Jacobskapel".

The management of the chapel is aimed at maintaining its religious function and at a diverse cultural-historical use: There are (ecumenical) celebrations, often followed by stories of pilgrimage; there are weddings and baptisms; concerts and exhibitions. The chapel room can also be rented for (small) gatherings or rehearsals.

Last but not least: the chapel still fulfills a function as a meeting place for pilgrims (especially the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella). Pilgrims gather for the monthly ecumenical celebration (2nd Sunday of the month); departing pilgrims receive the blessing here before departure; and can get a stamp in their pilgrim passport. Since the beginning of 2005 there has been a “Nijmegen Pilgrim Group” which organizes a series of walking Saturdays, whether from the chapel or not.

From the end of April to the end of September, the chapel is open on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to around 5:00 p.m. Volunteers will be present to answer questions from visitors (shoppers from Nijmegen and the surrounding area and/or tourists). Everyone is welcome.
