The ponds of Weerdbeemden, below the Musschenberg, were created by the degradation of clay in the 19th century and are today biotopes with a variety of waterfowl and beavers. To see the ponds up close, follow the existing paths, which are not listed in the Komoot maps (off-grid).

A nature reserve, directly along the Maas, was created by clay excavations for the stone factory. In the 19th century clay was mined by hand with a car for the production of bricks. In the years after the excavation, the area developed into a very varied wetland with a wealth of flora and fauna. Especially the waterfowl find here a true paradise. Galloway cattle provide the necessary grazing.
