This memorial to the dead originally stood about 400 m east of this point, on the northern side of the two carriage roads that lead to the 'Franziskanerweg'. The inscription reads: "At this point the k. District Administrator of Kronach Joh. Martin from Neukirchen a/Br.[and] died suddenly on September 29, 1870 at 7 o'clock in the evening."

Inscription below on the base:

"Wanderer! His soul is commended to your prayers"

In the course of land consolidation in 1977, the monument was moved to its current location near the railway underpass.
