The Abraham Ledeboerpark was created in 1918 from a 16 ha. large part of the former estate Het Wageler. It is not clear where the name 'Het Wageler' originally comes from. Around 1500, about 100 meters east of the Koetshuis, there was a farm Erve 't Wageler. In a dilapidated state, the farm was demolished in the early 1900s.
The 'Het Wageler' estate (46 ha.) embraces the Abraham Ledeboerpark like a cloak. The Wageler can be recognized by a small-scale alternation of fields, grasslands, hedgerows, bushes, farms, streams and brushwood. This beautiful 'camp landscape' is characteristic Twente country less than a kilometer from the heart of the city of Enschede.

Original elements from 1880 include the Coach House, the Giant Sequoia Tree, Rhodondendrons and various tree parties, the ponds and the entrance gate with the recognizable eagles and roses. Los Hoes 'Het Lammerinkswönner', originating from Usselo, can also be found in the park, which nowadays serves as an environmental education center.
