The Fountain of Neptune is an impressive neoclassical fountain located in the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo in Madrid. Designed by Ventura Rodríguez and built between 1782 and 1786, the fountain depicts the god of the sea, Neptune, riding a chariot pulled by seahorses.

In Roman mythology, NEPTUNE, who was honored with a fountain here in the Spanish capital, is the god of the sea; his Greek counterpart is POSEIDON. Both are usually depicted with a trident - in paintings or as statues - which is their common trademark, so to speak. In contrast to his Greek "counterpart", a planet is named after NEPTUNE.
