In the 14th century there was a chapel here that depended on the Sint-Willibrordus parish in Rijkevorsel. In 1678 Vlimmeren became an independent parish.

The transept, choir and nave have a 14th or 15th century core, but the church burned out in 1619 and was also destroyed in 1626. The church was probably completely restored shortly after 1678. The west tower was built in 1770-1771. In the third quarter of the 18th century, the church furniture was embellished. Extensive work to restore and enlarge the church took place in 1938.
