The Hoge Dijk is a recreation area and park in Amsterdam-Zuidoost and extends to Abcoude. In the Middle Ages, north of the Hollandse Kade, on the border between the province of North Holland and Utrecht, there was a swamp and forest area with a colony of herons. You can still regularly watch herons catching fish at various water spots.Within the Hoge Dijk there are several canals and lakes, some of which can be crossed using bridges. In the winter time, the lakes are sometimes completely frozen and are used by local residents for skating. The Hoge Dijk was built in the first half of the 1980s. Unfortunately, the railway line from Amsterdam to Utrecht also passes through the area, as well as the connecting road Abcouderstraatweg from Amsterdam-Zuidoost to Abcoude. In the western part of the area is the golf course Open Golfcentrum De Hoge Dijk (komoot.de/highlight/5384638). In the center of the Hoge Dijk is also the Klarenbeek nature area (komoot.de/highlight/3313750). Next to this nature area is the leisure pool 'Speelsloot' (komoot.de/highlight/5384737).In the eastern area, the area borders on the Gaasperzoom nature reserve. Cattle roam freely here all year round. the entire area is criss-crossed by cycling, horseback riding and hiking trails. If you want to come by car, you can also park in the adjacent car park.
