Until 1980, the mill drained the 317-hectare Broekzijds polder and channeled the water into the Gein. As early as 1968, ownership of the mill from the Broekzijds Water Board passed to Stichting De Utrechtse Molens.
The mill has a very special knife system; from 1952 on both rods, after a few broken rods on one and since 2009 on both rods again.
This is the only mill left in this dangerous system.
