The neoclassical Chapel of the Holy Face was built in 1885-1887 after a design by architect P.J. Taeymans. The chapel was commissioned by Octavia Van Genechten, mistress of the beguinage. The intention was to counter the desecration of Sunday in Turnhout (Congregation of Tours). H. Appearance refers to Veronica's Canvas, represented in a bas-relief in the facade.
