Behind the St. Severi Church stands the former Latin school, a classicist half-timbered building from 1614. Here, the children of the Hadler farmers and the Otterndorf bourgeoisie went to school in three classes so that they could later attend university. The well-known poet Johann Heinrich Voß was headmaster of this school from 1778 to 1782. A bronze bust commemorates him. Since taxes were calculated based on the built-up land at the time, the living space was cleverly increased by the protruding upper floors.

The Latin school was last completely renovated in 1994/95. Today, the rooms house the church office and private apartments.
