The parish of Apfeldorf was under the Polling Monastery until secularization in 1803. The dominant tower of the Catholic parish church Heilig Geist comes from the basement of the late Romanesque of the 13th century; the nave and choir are late Gothic in essence and were Baroque in the 18th century. One of the two side altars shows St. Roch. The veneration of St. Rochus has a long history in Apfeldorf and goes back to the bad plague years in 1592, 1628, 1732 and 1793. The Rochus day on August 16 is still considered a holiday.
