This is an intense climb not so much due to the slopes but due to the length of the route. The route winds along alternative roads to the traffic artery, with breathtaking views of the valleys and, in the final stretch, of the mountains surrounding the pass. The detour is very beautiful.

This branch line is a highly recommended alternative to the Lukmanier main road. While the modern road has little flair and is also very busy, the side road is a narrow, sometimes very narrow mountain road, which meanders through numerous villages on the western slope of the Val Brenno. Up to Ludiano the route runs practically in the valley, between Motto and Acquarossa you have to short on the main line, from Acquarossa it goes then on the slope winding but only moderately steep up to Ponto Valentino. Shortly after this village, cycle route 36 branches off to the left and continues along the slope on well-paved, sometimes steeply steep Alpweg. After reaching a good 1000 m altitude, the path leads almost vertically parallel to the slope further up above Olivone. From there you have a fantastic view of the head of the valley and meet the concrete runway of the Lukmanier main road again, which you have to follow from here again. For the descent, the route is only partially suitable because the path is very winding, confusing and steep - here it runs better on the main road.

From Biasca to the top of the pass, the Sontga Maria reservoir, it is almost 40 km and around 1700 m in altitude!
It's still not boring! It's a varied route through interesting villages and a breathtaking landscape! Wonderful! For the rest see Daniel's tip...
