On September 17, 1793, the church, school, rectory and a number of other houses fell victim to a fire. Since then, a “burning procession” has taken place every year on the Friday after Ascension Day.

The monastery in Prüm had the church restored in 1797. On this occasion, the side walls were raised by four feet, as can still be seen from the outside today.
