In order to solve some legendary secrets or crimes, at least in the imaginative and exciting world of crime fiction, not only the police are needed, but of course a master detective. And who, to ask this question - admittedly purely rhetorical at this point - could be better suited to the task than the legendary resident of this world-famous address: 221b Baker Street in London.
In my - admittedly purely subjective - opinion, the writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930) and his Sherlock Holmes novels belong on every well-stocked crime fiction shelf.

When the "Sherlock Holmes" stories were first published, street numbers in Baker Street did not go as high as 221. The street number 221B was assigned to the Sherlock Holmes Museum on 27 March 1990 (replacing the logical address 239 Baker Street) when the Leader of Westminster City Council, Shirley Porter, unveiled a blue plaque signifying the address of 221B Baker Street.

Sadly there is no real 221B Baker Street so we have to guess which of the buildings was home to Sherlock Holmes. Possibly the most famous address in London, there is plenty of paraphernalia around to remind us of such, including this museum. Look out for the blue plaque commemorating Sherlock and John Watson living here between 1881 and 1904. For more details about the museum, take a look at their website sherlock-holmes.co.uk
