The northwestern boundary of the abbey garden was marked by the tower Lauffenberg, a round tower. From here, the western, inner Abteigarten wall ran down to the Wyenturm.
The abbey garden was re-created around 1769 by Abbot Ambrosius Specht as a baroque vegetable garden with avenues of trees. Shortly thereafter, due to dilapidated city walls on the west side of the garden, a new wall was built incorporating the abbey garden. So the big abbey garden was completely walled and the Benedictines were protected. From the Lauffenberg tower you also had the perfect overview and control over the entire garden, which also represents a kennel.
