Very nice little old castle. Every year there is a small Christmas market on a weekend, which is very well attended. Unfortunately, the surrounding buildings at the castle are decaying.

A short detour to Nöthnitz Castle is always recommended. From the inner courtyard with an oak tree, we can best see the three-wing complex of the renaissance castle. The complex is characterized by an octagonal stair tower from the 17th century with a spiral staircase and the stairway with parallel window profiles. Heinrich Graf von Bünau, owner of the castle from 1739, and his immediate heirs shaped the reputation of the castle, in particular through one of the most important public libraries in Saxony. Later this became the basis of today's Saxon State and University Library. Probably the most important librarian in this castle worked between 1748 and 1754, Johann Joachim Winckelmann, who is considered the spiritual founder of classicism in German-speaking countries.

Renaissance castle. There is still a lot of work to do to preserve it and even more to get it back to its old glory.
