The evangelical church in Petershagen in its current form of a neo-Gothic brick building was completed in 1910 after a construction period of just over a year. Exactly 100 years later, in September 2010, the church was given the name "Petruskirche". Anyone who enters the church through its main portal on the west side will see a small figure of a bearded man made of gray Rüdersdorf limestone above the entrance. It depicts the disciple Peter, the patron saint of the Petershagen church. With the list, the parish church council followed the wishes of Pastor Giertz.

The tomb of the pastor Alexander Giertz (1860-1910), who initiated the construction of the new church but died a few months before it was consecrated, has been preserved in the surrounding old churchyard area.
